C Dear Madame : In reply to your let . ter asking what I think of your Remedy. I would say that the sales have been very fair, and so far as I can learn, the Reme dy has been very satisfactory to my cus tomers who have used it, especially so in the case of a little girl of this city, ten 'ears of age, who was troubled for a ong time with sores breaking out over the face and neck, having the appear ance of Scrofula, and which had resisted the usual alterative treatment for a long time. She took four bottles of the Bit ters last Spring, when the sores entirely disappeared, and up to this time she has had no return of them, her skin looking as fair and clear as anyone a. Bast The Carolina Central Chaoses Hands, We learn from Col. Robinson that the negotiations for the sale of the Carolina Central, which have been progressing for some days past, came to an end at last to day by his buying a large interest in the road. The sale would have been con sunimated 800ner but for the injunction which was sued out in New York by Mrs maunews, ana unui news was received If .ill . M yesterday that the injunction had been dissolved, matters remained at a stand still. Col. Robinson repeated to-day what he had told us before, that the management-and policy of the road would not be changed and in addition that all officers would be retained. This is the whole story and the finale to the heretofore reported sale. Forepausth's Show. We have never seen a larger turnout on our streets than was the case to day to see the street pageant that Fore' paugh's show exhibited. After a long delay it came and when it did arrive it amply compensated for the tedious wait- ing for it. It was a lengthy procession comprising two bands, twelve elephants a number of beautiiul horses, the lion's den, the steam piano, a long line o cages and last, but cot least, the famous $10,000 beauty. There was a large crowd in the tent this afternoon, which is pitched on Dick inson's Hill, but we cannot report on the performance in this issue. We are sat- isfied however, that it is the best circus show we have ever bad in Wilmington, taking for this the assertions of the News and Courier and the Savannah News. There will probably be a tent full to-night. Made from harmless materials, and adapted to the needs of fading and fall ing hair, Parker's Hair Balsam has taken the first rank as an elegant and reliable hair restorative. Death of Mr. Latimer. The Baptist church was crowded to its full capacity last night to hear the Introductory Sermon of the Convention, which was preached by Rev. Dr. T. E. Skinner, pastor of the First Baptist church at Raleigh. It was a great ef fort and, though occupying more than an hour in delivering, was followed with marked attention by the congregation. The preacher took as his text Joshua, v: ld-io. Mis tneme was tne great work which has been committed to His people by God. From the Chicago Times. Reflections on the Man in the Moon. "Are you the general passenger agent of this road." The inquirer was a young man who seemed terribly in earnest. His hair was long, his clothes shabby genteel, and his remarks were addressed to the manager of one of our leading trunk lines. "Yes sir. What can I do for you?" "I would like a pass to Baltimore by the way of Cleveland." "On what account ?" "I am an inventor sir." "Who are you?" "J Edison Hershel, of Oshkosh." "Don't know you. What have you in vented?" The young man looked around uneasi ly, and said: "Are we alone?" "We are, proceed." Lowering his voice to the key of a stage whisper, he said: "1 am the Inventor of the unascope. "Lunywhat?" "The 'Lunascope': the most remarka ble invention of the nineteenth century." "What is it for ?" "Why, it is an Optical Reflectometer, whereby I can throw the term St. Jacobs Oil in scintilating letters across the face of the moon." A pecnliar scintilation was observable around the corners of the official's eyes, but otherwise his countenance was per fectly mobile. "I have just come," continued the in ventor, "from a confidential interview with Mr. Peter Van Schaack of the 'Old Salamander Drug House.' I entrusted my secret to him. He commends me to you most warmly. And he seems as con fident as I am that the invention will save over three hundred thousand dollars a year in newspaper advertising to the proprietors of St. Jacobs Uil tne Oreat German Remedy. Please write out the pass at once. I may be able to overtake Messrs. A. Vogeler & Co's advertising manager at Cleveland on his way east. I will let them have the invention for $200,000, which is very low." "Young man," said the official, rising and slowly stroking his beard, "this cor poratioQ cannot become a party to cast ing reflections upon anyone not even so luny an individual a3 the Man in the Moon. Your 'scope' does not come with in our scope and all I can do is to pass you to the outer atmosphere. Good day." We call the attention of our readers to the advertisement of J. Monroe Taylor.
